Leather Shorts and Roses

Slowly it is getting real spring and once more we say goodbye to boots and leather shorts and vest...
Always a great set for wearing on colder days.
My leather boots from Italy with my old lace tights with back seam (see previous post below, with pictures of back).
Together with my very soft leather shorts from Escada and leather vest over a wool sweater.
Pieter the photographer told me to stand to the right but with the oak and wrought iron bench it is a bit wild...
Did capture the photographer as well.
In his cotton twill Burberry shirt that we found in Spain while on vacation.
That pairs well with his Gianni Versace jeans.
My Escada wool stretch skirt with the silk roses blouse and woolen roses cardigan.
To the left you also see that husband Pieter has cleared the underbrush in the adjacent woodgarden, now you can look through easily.
Here the repaired wooden bridge over the creek is visible to the left.

{My Burda Pattern Leather Waist Coat}

On May 25 of last year I did show you My Burda Pattern Silk Skirt - Bow Tie & Scarf Creation. With that outfit I was wearing my Burda  Pattern Leather Waist Coat over an Escada cotton blouse. Scanning my old slides I came across the photo that husband Pieter took from the Burda magazine. So I like to share the waist coat here with you.
Here I am in March of 1998, wearing proudly my Burda Pattern Leather Waist Coat.
It got made for me in India, by Pond's India Ltd. They also are into the leather garment industry, sewing for Emporio Armani and such. Their factory is in Chennai, formerly Madras, India.
You see me here with friend Marianne, from Atlanta. We had done a 40 minute program together about The Netherlands, for the Elementary School's 5th graders that morning. Marianne was spending several days visiting us.
I also do wear the hand rolled silk scarf that I made for this outfit.
Did you notice how LITTLE our 'Quercus Virginiana Grandview Gold' live oak here still is?
Just visible to the right of me...
And you also get to see my silk hair bow and barrette...
That's the photo from the Burda magazine after which I  got the idea for selecting the silk Gucci fabric for the skirt and for having the leather waist coat made. Do you like it?
They did sew in their boutique label from Emporio Armani... Never mind; I was as happy as could be and they did sew it for me and even ship it as a gift.
It means a lot to me and I will keep it for as long as I'm sane!

{My Italian Boots & Escada Leather Vest and Shorts}

Having done consulting for the Italian company near the Venice area, before we actually started working and living there full time, did yield me some buttery soft Italian boots as a GIFT. Leave it to the Italians for presenting you with the most elegant and luxurious gifts! They know how to do that. These boots were bought in Montebelluna, province of Treviso, Italy on November 2, 1984. They are entirely lined with the softest leather and have a little heel.
That's me out for a walk. Nancy Sinatra sang it already: These boots are made for walking...
Leather vest from Escada with leather shorts from Escada; both entirely lined and also buttery soft.
Wool sweater by Escada and my old lace tights...
With the sun out it is hard to look at you...!
So let's turn around and you get to see my lace tights with back seam and the little heels.
Our kittens are well disciplined; evidence that those tights survived many, many years!
Are you wearing anything made out of leather; besides your shoes, belts and handbags?

{My Burda Pattern Silk Skirt - Bow Tie & Scarf Creation}

Thanks for the many well wishes in your comments. In about a week I will feel my old self I guess. The inflammation is going down, now only I deal with the side affects of the medications.
Traveling the world as international consultants always gave me access to several world city shopping malls, like Plaza Indonesia in Jakarta. It was there, where I did buy some nice Gucci silk for sewing a skirt  to go with the leather waist coat that was made for me by Pond's (India) Ltd. leather factory in Chennai (Madras). For both I used a Burda Pattern. The silk skirt is silk lined, using the smooth Japanese Kinkame silk 50 weight thread, which is incomparable. I even did make a silk scarf with hand rolled edges to go with it. For husband Pieter a silk bow tie as well as one for me. Having lived and worked in Indonesia I always had access to the most pretty silk hair bow barrettes with snood. Now, living back in the USA, I at least managed to make one myself, to match the skirt. Learn from Mariette as you look at the pictures below... Shopping information for the Kinkame silk thread and silk lining you will find below. Have any of you made a hand rolled silk scarf? Or a silk hair bow? Or maybe a silk bow tie for your significant other? Let me know as I definately want to hear about it!
Scarf, bow tie and hair bow is shown towards the end in more detail.
Voilà, my Burda pattern self sewn silk Gucci skirt...
Photo taken on Pieter's birthday, below you find a link where husband Pieter is wearing his silk bow tie.
Doing a 'tournesol' for showing you the different angels of the skirt.
It overlaps in the front and is inspired by a kind of sarong style.
It is not a wrap sarong though, in the back is a blind zipper...
By the way, do you like this leather waist coat?
That's the back with the blind zipper...
Pond's (India) Ltd. did a great job with the top stitching on this leather waist coat!
We both worked for Pond's and they did this for me as a courtesy.
I'll treasure this as long as it fits and that's not a big risk as I'm the same size since I was 15.
With this overlapping double layer you have lots of freedom to move, or even RUN...
The part that I lift up here is NOT lined, the rest of the skirt is fully lined.
The waist coat has snap closure and also 2 welted pockets with a zipper.
A notch collar and top stitching all over.
I've turned the Escada blouse's notch collar over the leather one...
Now let's go to the matching accessories...
My favorite Japanese silk thread! Below you find the link for it...
Also shown here is the solid black silk lining of the skirt.
At the top: hand rolled silk scarf for which the smooth Japanese silk thread works great!
Below the scarf are the two matching bow ties with their hook and eye slide (see link below).
Silk hair bow with snood that I love to wear at times.
Detail of the hand rolled silk scarf. Below you find a video of how to do this.
Easily done with this perfect Japanese Kinkame silk thread.
My silk hair bow barrette with snood...
Here you also clearly see the black dots that are woven into the silk.
Just love this quality fabric and love to run my fingers through, while at the store...
If you got the bow tie hook and eye slide, these are relatively easy to make!
Now I like to hear from you what you've made for yourself or a loved one.
